“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. ” ― Carl Jung
Sarah combined her love of travel with yoga and completed her 200h teacher training in Goa, India at Sampoorna Yoga. Since then she has enjoyed introducing the benefits of yoga to new groups of people and has completed training in the more restorative form of Yin yoga with Dawn Wright and Mandala yoga with The Yoga People. More recently she has started training online with Amy Carmody, with a main focus on in depth-anatomy and the biomechanics of movement.
Sarah began practising yoga regularly during her time at University but was first introduced to the practice by her mother when they attended local classes together in their village hall. During a stressful period in her life she found that yoga brought her back to a calm place of stillness which helped her stay balanced and grounded whilst living a busy life. She believes that yoga is an essential life-long practice that maximises our potential, helping us to find and understand the truth of who we are.
Sarah’s classes are based on the principle that movement should be intrinsically joyful and therefore playfulness and self-inquiry are equally encouraged. Her classes focus on allowing her students to feel more embodied and connected to their proprioception through better education and understanding of how the body moves. Her recent training with Amy Carmody has highlighted the importance of “moving well” and has encouraged a shift in her teaching to offer more creative, intelligent sequences focused on balancing flexibility and strength.
Teachers such as the Sampoorna Yoga family, Dulce Aguilar, Dawn Wright and Amy Carmody have inspired Sarah to keep learning and refining her teaching methods both as an instructor and student.
To relax, Sarah likes to spend as much time outdoors as the Scottish weather will allow. She loves camping, hill walking, wild swimming and foraging which offers her the chance to slow down and become more connected with nature and herself.
